The Northern Voices is an independent platform amplifying the stories, achievements, and values of Nordic and Baltic communities across the United States and Canada. Founded since 2024 by Valev Laube and sustained as a self‑funded initiative, TNV was born from the simple idea of bringing artists and audiences together—sparked in New York’s creative circles and shaped by community collaboration.
What began as a small project has grown into a widely read online home for Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians, Finns, Danes, Norwegians, Swedes, Icelanders, and communities from Åland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands—the full Nordic and Baltic tapestry—living in North America. Our readers come for thoughtful coverage that celebrates shared traditions and contemporary culture while spotlighting the work of artists, entrepreneurs, scholars, and community leaders.
At TNV, we publish across news, arts, culture, societies, and sciences, with independently curated features and opinion pieces. Editorial independence is central to our work: all articles are reviewed for accuracy and fairness and reflect the views of their authors—not of any organization or interest group.
What We Stand For
We champion the values our cultures share and nurture:
- Tolerance and open dialogue
- Knowledge and curiosity
- Humanity and dignity
- Empathy in storytelling
- Serenity—a measured tone in a noisy world
What’s Next
We’re continuing to build features that serve the community, including a Spotlight for creative talents, a weekly newsletter, and tools that support community-driven projects and collaborations. This endeavor remains young, but it is powered by commitment, craft, and the belief that small acorns—tended with care and shared purpose—grow into something lasting.
Join us. Read, share, pitch a story, and help us ensure that Northern stories find a home in North America.
