A European Touring Scholarship then propelled her to the United States, where she further honed her skills at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, earning a degree in Contemporary Composition and Production. This diverse background informs her eclectic musical style, which seamlessly blends Lithuanian folk melodies with elements of jazz, pop, and experimental soundscapes.

Her debut album, A Hunger Artist (2017), based on Franz Kafka's short story, showcases her ability to blend literary inspiration with musical innovation. Her second album, Joan of Arc, for String Quartet, provides a haunting soundtrack to Carl Dreyer's classic silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928), demonstrating her cinematic sensibility. Bird Language (2022), her third album, further explores the intersection of jazz and Lithuanian folk, featuring a rich tapestry of instruments and voices.

Her most recent album, Kanklės in New York (2023), is a groundbreaking project that presents the kanklės in both audio and written form. The accompanying book of sheet music makes this ancient instrument accessible to a wider audience. She is introducing her own signature instrument: the"Kanklės in New York" that was released in May 2024. This new line introduces 12-string-kanklės in five unique designs.

Beyond her artistic achievements, Smirnova is a deeply engaged member of the global music community.. Her commitment to the art form extends to her role as a voting member of the Grammy Recording Academy and a mentor at the Grammy U program.
