Now completing her Bachelor's in Studio Art at the City College of New York, and as a collaborator with Nordic Artists of New York (NANY), Sigurhansdóttir is not only showcasing her compelling artwork but also contributing to a burgeoning movement that unites Nordic and Baltic artists in a shared vision of creativity and community.

From Icelandic Landscapes to New York City Studios

Growing up surrounded by Iceland's dramatic natural beauty, Sigurhansdóttir developed a deep appreciation for the interplay of space and the unseen forces that shape our world. This profound influence is evident in her artistic practice, which questions the boundaries of perceived reality and explores the hidden dimensions that lie beneath the surface of everyday life. Her art delves into the duality of modern existence, seeking to reveal the extraordinary within the mundane.

Sigurhansdóttir's work blurs the lines between the tangible and the imagined, capturing those fleeting moments where "surfaces slip and untold stories emerge." Through her exploration of space and form, she invites viewers to contemplate the connections and tensions of modern existence, fostering a dialogue about the unseen layers of our world. Her art transforms the ordinary into something profound, prompting reflection on the hidden mysteries that surround us.

A Proven Talent with a Collaborative Spirit

Sigurhansdóttir's talent has been recognized with the prestigious Connor Merit Award, a testament to her artistic skill and dedication. Her experience extends beyond the studio; she has participated in the Skapandi Sumarstörf (Creative Summer Jobs) program in Iceland, where she created impactful public murals using acrylic outdoor paint. This experience honed her ability to collaborate closely with clients, translating their visions into visually compelling large-scale artworks. Her detail-oriented approach, from initial sketches to final execution, ensures that each project reflects both her artistic vision and the client's desires.

Joining the NANY Collective

Sigurhansdóttir's collaboration with Nordic Artists of New York represents a natural progression in her artistic journey. NANY, founded in 2024, is dedicated to uniting, elevating, and inspiring Nordic and Baltic artists in New York City. It provides a vital platform for collaboration, resource sharing, and the creation of partnerships that bridge the gap between art and environmental advocacy.

"Becoming a part of NANY feels like discovering a new artistic family," Sigurhansdóttir shares. "It's an incredible opportunity to connect with fellow artists who share a similar cultural background and a passion for pushing creative boundaries."

True North and Beyond

Sigurhansdóttir's participation in True North 2025, NANY's flagship Earth Day event, promises to be a visually captivating addition to the program. Held at the historic New York Estonian House on April 22, 2025, True North will be an immersive experience showcasing a diverse range of Nordic and Baltic talent, including music, dance, visual arts, and multidisciplinary collaborations. The event will also highlight local environmental initiatives, reflecting the shared values of NANY and its artists.
